Social Development Summit: Omar Hilale Highlights Morocco’s Commitment to Ensuring the Success of the Doha Declaration Adoption Process
Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Omar Hilale, underlined on Wednesday in Doha Morocco’s commitment to ensuring the success of the process leading to the adoption of the “Doha Political Declaration” emanating from the 2nd World Summit for Social Development (November 4–6).
During a briefing with his Belgian counterpart, Sophie De Smedt, in their capacity as co-facilitators of the intergovernmental negotiations on the Declaration, Mr. Hilale emphasized the determination of both Kingdoms to guarantee the success of the preparatory process and the negotiations on the Doha Political Declaration.
He stated that this Declaration represents “much more than a procedural achievement or a renewal of the commitments made in Copenhagen; it is a renewal of faith in multilateralism, a strong reaffirmation of solidarity, and a commitment to leave no one behind.”
He went on to say that the adoption of this Declaration “sends a powerful message that Member States have chosen cooperation over fragmentation, and ambition over doubt,” demonstrating that “when we are united, our differences fuel progress instead of hindering it.”
The Moroccan diplomat added that through this Declaration, “we have also shown that the United Nations remains capable of coming together around a common vision for social development, and of working toward a future based on dignity, human rights, social justice, equity, sustainable development, and opportunities for all.”
Mr. Hilale stressed that the Doha Declaration constitutes “a tangible expression” of political continuity with the Copenhagen Declaration, while expanding its scope to address today’s multidimensional crises and reaffirming social development as the human dimension of the 2030 Agenda. This shared achievement, he noted, reflects “the best of multilateral cooperation and our collective will to promote social development for all.”
The Doha Declaration also reflects the proactive and unified leadership of the two Kingdoms, Morocco and Belgium, which succeeded in bringing viewpoints closer together and renewing the international community’s commitment to social development.
Finally, it underscores the United Nations’ responsibility and Morocco’s central role in this international process, through the Moroccan model of social development inspired by the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who places the human element at the heart of public policies, guided by social justice, the preservation of human dignity, and the promotion of human rights.
