Islamabad: Morocco’s Top Senator Highlights Kingdom’s Efforts Under the Sovereign’s Leadership for Peace, Security, Development

During his address at the opening of the first session of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), Ould Errachid indicated that Morocco turned peace — in all of its dimensions: spiritual, social, environmental, health and food — into a fundamental thrust of its public policies as well as its development programs, adding that the Kingdom acts within the framework of international cooperation in favor of peacekeeping efforts through UN operations while providing effective support in counterterrorism and the fight against organized crime and illegal immigration, in line with the spirit of collective responsibility and human solidarity.

A global vision that makes Morocco a reliable actor and strategic partner for stability and development not only within its regional environment but also in the Arab, African and international spheres, he said, noting that this approach reflects its commitment to operating within a comprehensive approach of security, peace and development as well as the respect of the fundamentals of cooperation, coexistence and solidarity through structuring regional and international development projects.

A commitment, he maintained, that was mainly embodied in the Royal Atlantic Initiative for the Sahel aimed at turning the region into a safe and prosperous area, the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project, a genuine bridge for Afro-European energy cooperation, the African Agriculture Adaptation Initiative “Triple A” aimed at reducing Africa’s vulnerability to climate change, the African Migration Observatory in Rabat, and the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams, Morchidines and Morchidates, a global model in the fight against radicalization.

All these initiatives illustrate the Kingdom’s firm commitment to a comprehensive approach to security in its economic, social, environmental, and spiritual dimensions, with a view to achieving lasting peace and sustainable development, Ould Errachid emphasized.

In this respect, he underlined the Moroccan parliament’s role in promoting national and international peace and security, in line with the clear-sighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI promoting peace and stability at the regional stage, South-South cooperation, the peaceful resolution of conflicts on the basis of UN resolutions and the principles of international law as well as the respect for the sovereignty of countries and their territorial integrity.
