Opening of Interpol’s 93rd General Assembly in Marrakech: A Landmark Recognition of Morocco’s Security Leadership

Marrakech is hosting the 93rd General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (OIPC–Interpol) this week, a major global gathering that, according to its president, Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, represents a true acknowledgment of Morocco’s pivotal role in regional and international security.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday, Mr. Al-Raisi emphasized that holding this top Interpol event in Morocco from November 24 to 27 is no coincidence, but rather the result of the Kingdom’s consistent and active presence across all platforms dedicated to global safety. “I am very pleased to be in this friendly country, a land of peace and security, deeply committed to international police cooperation,” he stated.

A strong signal: Morocco as a key global security actor

For the president of Interpol, hosting this high-profile assembly highlights Morocco’s contribution to international efforts against crime, cyberthreats and terrorism. Thanks to its strategic location between Africa, the Arab world and Europe, the Kingdom plays a crucial role as a bridge facilitating coordination, communication and cooperation across continents.

“After already welcoming the global security community in 2007, Morocco is once again confirming its unwavering commitment to strengthened police cooperation,” said Mr. Al-Raisi, recalling that the world is facing major challenges that require coordinated responses.

A decisive Moroccan presence, particularly in Africa

As Interpol’s vice-president for Africa, Morocco occupies a strategic position in strengthening security across the continent. Mr. Al-Raisi highlighted the Kingdom’s “major” contribution to joint operations, capacity-building programs and support provided to African states in combating organized crime. “In most operations conducted in Africa, Morocco is among the leading countries involved,” he noted.

Interpol praises Morocco’s excellence and organizational capacity

The Interpol president also congratulated the Kingdom on hosting the upcoming AFCON 2025 and co-hosting the 2030 World Cup, affirming that the international community has full confidence in Morocco’s ability to organize large-scale global events safely.

Major progress under the current Interpol mandate

Mr. Al-Raisi also highlighted advancements achieved by the organization, including strengthened international cooperation, expanded databases, increased joint operations, promotion of gender parity and improved geographic representation within Interpol’s governing bodies.

A strategic gathering for expertise sharing

The Interpol General Assembly, which brings together delegates from 196 member states, represents the largest global platform for police cooperation. It sets strategic priorities, adopts key resolutions and provides a unique space for dialogue, coordination and partnership development in security matters.

With this event, Marrakech once again becomes the center of global security dialogue, reinforcing Morocco’s standing as a pillar of stability and an essential actor in the international fight against crime.
