International Maritime Organization Assembly: Morocco and the United Kingdom Strengthen Cooperation in the Maritime Sector
Morocco and the United Kingdom signed, on Wednesday in London, a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in the maritime sector.

This memorandum was signed by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdelssamad Kayouh, and the UK Minister of State responsible for Transport, Kear Mather, on the sidelines of the 34th session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Signed in the presence of Morocco’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hakim Hajoui, the memorandum covers the mutual recognition of professional certificates and documents for seafarers, in accordance with the provisions of the IMO International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.
Falling within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation, this memorandum represents a major step forward in developing a strategic partnership between the two countries in the maritime sector, a key field for maritime safety, professional mobility and the consolidation of international standards in training and certification.
This memorandum will notably contribute to facilitating the employment of seafarers, improving the competitiveness of maritime companies, and supporting the development of trade exchanges as well as port activities.
In a statement to MAP, Mr Kayouh expressed his satisfaction with the quality of discussions held with the British official, highlighting the strengths both countries possess in the maritime sector.
He stressed that this agreement will facilitate the mobility of seafarers, strengthen maritime safety and environmental protection, while stimulating cooperation in training and maritime innovation.
The minister added that this new phase of cooperation will also help strengthen the competitiveness of maritime transport companies and support the growing dynamic of trade between Morocco and the United Kingdom, particularly regarding agricultural products.
