The Higher Institute of Information and Communication (ISIC) in Rabat, under the leadership of Abdellatif Bensfia, has reached a historic milestone in its academic and international development. UNESCO has officially informed the Institute’s administration that the request to establish a “UNESCO Chair on research and training aimed at promoting a culture of Peace through media and communication in the Digital Age” has been positively evaluated.
This decision represents a significant distinction for Morocco and for ISIC, a pioneering institution in the training of media professionals for several decades. It reflects the trust of a global reference organization in ISIC’s ability to lead a strategic project essential in today’s world: promoting a culture of peace, responsibility and ethics in digital media environments.

Obtaining a UNESCO Chair is a rare seal of excellence granted following a rigorous evaluation process. It highlights:
- The academic and scientific quality of ISIC,
- The relevance of its vision focused on innovation and media ethics,
- The role anticipated by Morocco, driven by the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in regulating the digital sphere, combating disinformation and promoting a peaceful communication environment.
This international recognition strengthens Morocco’s position as a major actor in global reflection on media, digital transformation and social peace.
A Chair serving knowledge, society and the future
The new Chair will serve as a platform for expertise and research on key topics including:
- Ethical communication in the digital era
- Media education
- Fight against hate speech
- Media and prevention of extremism
- Culture of peace and governance of the digital space
It will also foster networking among researchers, universities, journalists and civil society actors at the international level.
A historic milestone for ISIC and for Morocco
By hosting this UNESCO Chair, ISIC consolidates its status as a leading institution in Africa and the Arab world. This achievement is not only a scientific success but also a commitment to the future: forming journalists and communication specialists capable of defending universal values, safeguarding public debate and promoting a society based on respect, dialogue and peace.
Morocco can take pride in this new distinction, which once again confirms its regional leadership and its ongoing commitment to responsible, human-centered and forward-looking communication.
