Ambassador of Morocco in Saudi Arabia Mustapha Mansouri: The GCC Supreme Council Summit expressed unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity
The Ambassador of Morocco in Saudi Arabia, Mustapha Mansouri, welcomed the clear and unequivocal support for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity expressed by the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the final communiqué issued at the end of its 46th session, held on Wednesday in Manama.
In a statement to MAP, Mr. Mansouri praised the renewed support of the GCC Supreme Council for the Moroccan identity of the Sahara and for the autonomy initiative as the definitive and realistic solution to what he described as an artificial regional conflict. He noted that the Council also welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31.
The diplomat highlighted that the Summit’s final communiqué highly commended the decision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to submit the autonomy initiative to the United Nations Security Council and to designate October 31 of each year as a national holiday under the name “Unity Day”, reflecting the Sovereign’s vision regarding the defense of territorial integrity and the strengthening of the Kingdom’s stability.
The positions expressed in the GCC Summit’s final communiqué reflect the depth of the fraternal ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the GCC countries and underscore the strength of the strategic partnership between the two sides, Mr. Mansouri noted.
The GCC Supreme Council also emphasized the importance of respecting the principles of sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs, in line with international norms and conventions. This, the ambassador said, constitutes a fundamental pillar for reinforcing the security, stability and territorial integrity of states.
For years, the GCC Supreme Council has dedicated paragraphs to the Kingdom of Morocco in its final declarations, which, Mr. Mansouri observed, reflects the privileged position the Kingdom enjoys among GCC member states.
The diplomat also affirmed that Morocco will continue to work sincerely and in the spirit of partnership with its brotherly GCC countries to implement the joint action plan and develop cooperation in all areas, “in order to serve the supreme interests of our countries and strengthen their stability”.
The ambassador further stressed that the positions of the GCC countries regarding Morocco’s territorial integrity come at a time when the Moroccan Sahara issue is experiencing strong international momentum, marked by growing recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and increasing support for the autonomy initiative as a realistic and credible solution to end this artificial conflict.
