AFCON 2025: Casablanca Mohammed V Airport Breaks Records and Emerges as a Leading African Air Hub

Driven by the exceptional momentum of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Casablanca Mohammed V Airport has reached a historic milestone by surpassing 11 million passengers for the first time. This symbolic achievement confirms the central role of the Casablanca hub within both Morocco’s aviation network and the wider African air transport landscape.

In a statement, the National Airports Office (ONDA) said this landmark reflects a decisive step in the airport’s development, as the Casablanca platform alone now accounts for nearly 31 percent of the country’s total air traffic. This leading position makes it Morocco’s main gateway and a key crossroads linking Africa with Europe, the Americas and the Middle East.

Over the course of 2025, passenger traffic rose from 10.5 million in 2024 to 11.5 million, representing a strong increase of 9.3 percent. This growth has been largely driven by the massive influx of supporters, official delegations and international visitors arriving for AFCON 2025, as well as by the continued expansion of air routes and the growing appeal of Morocco as a destination.

Beyond the numbers, the performance highlights the airport’s ability to handle exceptional volumes while maintaining smooth operations, safety and service quality. It also fits within the “Airports 2030” strategic vision, which aims to support the rise in air traffic through infrastructure upgrades, improved passenger experience and expanded capacity.

Forward-looking projections point to an even stronger trajectory. Casablanca Mohammed V Airport is targeting 12.5 million passengers in 2026, with ambitions to exceed 20 million by 2030, underscoring a clear long term vision backed by steady execution.

In this context, AFCON 2025 stands out as a powerful growth catalyst, showcasing Morocco’s expertise in hosting major international events and further cementing Mohammed V Airport’s status as a pillar of the country’s aviation reach and competitiveness.
