Samira Sitail: Morocco Pursues a “Pragmatic” Diplomacy with Clear Commitments
Morocco pursues a diplomacy based on “pragmatism,” “clarity of commitments,” and “the strength of partnerships built over time,” Morocco’s Ambassador to France, Samira Sitail, said on Tuesday evening in Paris.

“Morocco works to ensure that its positions and commitments are as clear as possible. This is one of the keys to the success of its diplomacy,” Ms. Sitail stressed during a conference held at HEC Paris.
The diplomat underlined that the Kingdom’s diplomacy is driven by the enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which gives Morocco the stature of a respected and listened-to state on the international stage.
Recalling the historical foundations of the Moroccan state and the relevance of its political and institutional choices, Ms. Sitail highlighted that, under the Royal Vision, Morocco has succeeded in making major strategic decisions, notably its return to the African Union in 2017. This decision, she noted, aimed both to “defend the interests of the Kingdom” and to “carry one of the strongest voices of the African continent onto the international stage.”
Since this historic return, she added, Morocco has continued to multiply diplomatic advances, consolidating its traditional alliances while building new ones.
Speaking before a large audience of students, alumni and geopolitics enthusiasts, Ms. Sitail also emphasized the importance of the identity dimension in the Kingdom’s international influence. She pointed to the plural and inclusive nature of Moroccan identity, carried abroad by Moroccans living overseas, whom she described as “true vectors of this cultural richness.”
This plurality, Amazigh, Hassani, Andalusian, African and Hebrew, represents a singularity and a source of pride for all Moroccans, she said at the event organized by the HEC group in partnership with the Moroccan Embassy in Paris.
Turning to economic issues, the ambassador stressed that they are inseparable from political and diplomatic action, recalling the central role played by the embassy and the consular network in promoting Morocco among investors and facilitating investment decisions.
Finally, addressing Morocco’s hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, Ms. Sitail said that the Kingdom “has emerged strengthened on several levels,” citing the organizational, economic and media success of the competition.
Beyond numerical indicators such as growth, jobs created, tourist inflows or infrastructure delivered, she highlighted a major and lasting achievement: “the unity of the Moroccan people,” more consolidated than ever on the occasion of this major continental event.
