Deployment of a Moroccan Religious Mission to Belgium for Ramadan

The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of ensuring close and high-quality religious guidance for Moroccans established in Belgium, responding to their expectations, particularly during this month of fasting and devotion.

Organised by the Rally of Muslims of Belgium (RMB), in coordination with the Consulates General of Morocco in Belgium and the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Residing Abroad, the event is part of ongoing efforts to preserve the national religious reference framework and consolidate the Moroccan religious model founded on moderation and the middle path.

This Moroccan religious mission, similar to those dispatched to other European countries, reflects the Kingdom of Morocco’s determination to provide solid religious guidance for members of its community abroad, through spiritual and educational support adapted to the specificities of host societies.

In an address delivered on the occasion, RMB President Salah Echallaoui stated that the members of this religious mission—comprising university professors, imams, male and female preachers—will be deployed across major Belgian cities with a high concentration of Moroccans, noting that this initiative demonstrates the particular attention given by the Kingdom to establishing rigorous religious guidance that promotes the values of dialogue and coexistence.

He specified that the members of this delegation are entrusted with a highly important mission, namely contributing to a sound understanding of the noble precepts of Islam and protecting younger generations from extremist and radical discourse, while strengthening their attachment to their Moroccan identity in full respect of the laws and specificities of the host country.

For her part, the Consul General of Morocco in Liège and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Najah Dimou, affirmed that the deployment of this religious mission to Belgium falls within the framework of the implementation of the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who grants particular attention to Moroccans around the world in order to preserve their religious and cultural identity.

She added that the month of Ramadan, with its strong spiritual and social significance, gives this initiative symbolic importance, as during this blessed month the Moroccan religious mission will work to spread among the Moroccan community a culture of peace, solidarity and cohesion, in full respect of the values of coexistence and living together.

Ms Dimou further noted that supporting the Moroccan community during Ramadan through qualified religious expertise reflects an integrated institutional approach aimed at preserving the national religious reference framework and promoting positive integration based on respect for the laws of the country of residence and the anchoring of values of tolerance and dialogue.

The reception was attended by the Consuls General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Belgium, representatives of associations active in organising Muslim worship in Belgium, officials of Moroccan mosques, and members of the Moroccan community established in this European country.
