Moroccan delegation to visit the Canary Islands to strengthen partnerships and promote the Kingdom’s vision
A major Moroccan delegation is set to visit the Canary Islands in the coming days with the aim of strengthening economic and institutional ties between the two sides, while highlighting Morocco’s autonomy proposal as a solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
The initiative comes within the framework of sustained diplomatic momentum between Rabat and Madrid, marked by gradual rapprochement and a shared determination to develop mutually beneficial partnerships.
According to Spanish media sources, the visit, expected before the end of the month, follows the trip made by a large Canarian delegation to Agadir last January. That meeting helped lay the groundwork for broader cooperation across several strategic sectors. The Moroccan delegation, made up of around 80 participants, will include institutional officials as well as leading economic stakeholders.
The program includes a series of meetings with local authorities, exchanges with public universities and discussions with private sector representatives, particularly through chambers of commerce and business organizations.
Special attention will be given to key sectors such as maritime fisheries, port infrastructure, renewable energy and agriculture.
The visit comes at a time of growing international support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, particularly within the framework of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, backed by several major international powers.
It also follows the January visit by a Canary Islands delegation led by Fernando Clavijo, which included political, economic, cultural and academic representatives. That mission resulted in official meetings and the signing of cooperation agreements in various fields, including trade and education.
Beyond its economic dimensions, the initiative reflects a notable evolution in Morocco’s diplomatic approach in the region, focused on strengthening stability, consolidating lasting partnerships and promoting balanced cooperation between the two shores of the Atlantic.
