Moroccan Delegation Visits U.S. National Archives Following 14th Meeting of Morocco-US Defense Consultative Committee

Rabat - Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, and Lieutenant General, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the South Zone, led a large delegation on a visit to the U.S. National Archives following the 14th meeting of the Morocco-U.S. Defense Consultative Committee, held in Washington on April 14-16, 2026.

This visit provided an opportunity to review important historical documents linking the two countries, notably the Morocco-U.S. Treaty of Peace and Friendship, signed in 1786 by Sultan Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah and 3rd President of the United States Thomas Jefferson, which attests to the depth of the historical ties between the two countries and embodies the United States’ oldest uninterrupted diplomatic relationship, founded on mutual respect, cooperation, and a lasting friendship between the Moroccan and American peoples, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

The Moroccan delegation then visited Arlington National Cemetery, where a wreath was laid on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the statement concludes.
