Led by Morocco’s ambassador to Colombia and Ecuador Farida Loudaya, the Moroccan delegation stressed that this Royal leadership was recognized by the African Union in 2017 through the designation of the Sovereign as African Leader on Migration.
In this regard, she recalled that this continental recognition resulted in the presentation of the African Agenda for Migration and the creation, in 2020 in Rabat, of the African Migration Observatory, as well as the co-chairmanship, alongside Germany, of the 11th GFMD Summit, held in December 2018 in Marrakech and featuring the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.
The 15th edition of the Forum was also marked by the Kingdom’s active participation through the co-sponsorship of two side events, where Morocco highlighted the humanistic and multidimensional vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, transforming migration into a driver for solidarity and a genuine lever for shared growth.
In this context, the Moroccan delegation highlighted various reforms undertaken by the Kingdom, including the strengthening of legal framework, policies for the regularization and socio-economic integration of migrants, the fight against human trafficking networks, and the alignment of the national legal framework with international norms.
Created in 2007, the GFMD is an international dialogue platform bringing together governments, international bodies, civil society, and the private sector to promote an inclusive debate on migration issues and their impact on development.
