On behalf of the group, the Central African diplomat stressed that exchanges between member states, the Human Rights Council and the High Commissioner’s Office must remain strictly bilateral and faithful to their primary mission, avoiding any instrumentalization that could fuel sterile political disputes within the UN body.
The representative highlighted the significant progress achieved in the southern provinces, both diplomatically and economically. The opening of numerous consulates general in Dakhla and Laayoune, he said, reflects the growing support of the international community and serves as a strategic lever to strengthen regional cooperation, attract investment and promote sustainable development at both regional and continental levels.
He recalled that the Moroccan Sahara issue falls fully under the exclusive mandate of the Security Council, emphasizing the relevance and primacy of Morocco’s autonomy plan as a realistic and pragmatic basis for reaching a lasting political solution. In this context, he reaffirmed the group of 40 countries’ commitment to efforts aimed at reviving the political process under UN auspices, particularly through the Geneva roundtable format and in accordance with relevant resolutions, including Resolution 2756 adopted in October 2024.
In conclusion, the Central African representative invited delegations to review the full official statement, reaffirming the group’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the dispute, grounded in consensus and the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative.
