The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Mauritanides Energy and Mining Conference and Exhibition, in the presence of Morocco’s ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, the Director-General for Energy and Mining Development at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Ahmed Bouzid, as well as senior officials from Mauritania’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the qualitative leap achieved in cooperation between the two ministries, as well as between public and private stakeholders, with the aim of contributing to the energy security of both countries and optimizing the use of their respective resources.
Both parties welcomed the concrete steps already taken in the energy sector at the bilateral level, reflecting a shared vision rooted in sustainable development that serves the two brotherly peoples and, more broadly, the peoples of Africa. This dynamic is in line with the aspirations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
Speaking to MAP after the meeting, Minister Benali stressed that the talks were part of efforts to strengthen ties between Morocco and Mauritania in areas such as electrical interconnection and partnerships across various mining sectors.
She also highlighted the convergence of the two countries’ visions regarding the development of the energy sector, diversification of sources, localization of industries, and the reinforcement of electrical interconnection between the two states.
Minister Benali is leading a large Moroccan delegation to the 7th edition of the Mauritanides Energy and Mining Conference and Exhibition, which opened on Monday in Nouakchott under the presidency of Mauritanian Head of State Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
The event aims to establish a regional and international platform bringing together actors in the mining, gas, and oil sectors, alongside representatives of renewable energy and green hydrogen, to explore ways of developing these industries and strengthening their contribution to national and regional economies.
According to the organizers, the conference also seeks to provide investors with an opportunity to discover ongoing projects, forge partnerships in mining and clean energy, and learn about Mauritania’s investment climate, its mineral potential, and its energy strategy.
