Qatar Hosts Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit Following Israeli Attack

According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting aims primarily to adopt a joint Arab and Islamic declaration strongly condemning the Israeli aggression. The initiative comes as Doha has, for the past two years, played a key mediating role between the Palestinian resistance and Israel in the hope of securing a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

On the eve of the summit, Arab and Muslim foreign ministers met to prepare the ground. Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, warned that “it is unacceptable to remain silent or to downplay such an aggression,” denouncing what he described as Israel’s impunity, which he argued only encourages further violations.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, described the attack as “cowardly, treacherous and senseless,” calling for firm support for Qatar not only as a nation under attack, but also because of its central role in regional mediation efforts.

Many participants stressed the need for deterrent measures against Israel, arguing that verbal condemnations alone are no longer sufficient. The summit could therefore mark a decisive step in consolidating Arab and Islamic cooperation, particularly in defense of the Palestinian cause and the preservation of regional sovereignty.

More than 200 journalists and international correspondents are covering this exceptional event in Doha, giving the summit significant global media resonance. The statements and images expected from the gathering are likely to further increase diplomatic pressure on Israel.

The attack, which claimed the lives of five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer, is viewed as a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law. It also represents a direct assault on a state that has been playing the role of mediator in peace negotiations for Gaza.

In this context, Doha once again urged the international community to put an end to the “double standards” from which Israel continues to benefit, and to work toward a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
