Inauguration in Berrechid of the WhAP 8×8 Armored Combat Vehicle Manufacturing Plant

This factory, the subject of the investment agreement signed between the parties in September 2024, is the result of a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening Morocco’s industrial capacity in the defense sector, according to a statement from the Administration of National Defense.

Located in the Berrechid industrial zone, the TASM plant officially begins production of WhAP 8×8 armored combat vehicles, intended for the Royal Armed Forces as well as high-potential international markets.

This landmark project, initiated under the impetus of the Royal High Directives, seeks not only to progressively provide the country with industrial and technological autonomy in the field of defense, but also to serve as a catalyst for the development of an innovative industrial ecosystem and the creation of skilled jobs.

At its launch, the TASM factory will integrate 35 percent of locally sourced components, a figure expected to reach 50 percent through sustained investment in training and the integration of national suppliers.

The Berrechid facility is set to support regional economic growth, with the creation of 90 direct jobs and 250 indirect jobs, along with a scale-up plan foreseeing a significant increase in production in the medium term.

It also offers Moroccan talents opportunities for training, career development, and expertise building in advanced defense vehicle production and maintenance.

Equipped with modern infrastructure, the TASM plant will serve as a regional platform for exporting WhAP 8×8 vehicles, particularly to Africa.

This partnership is fully in line with the Royal Vision for the emergence of a national defense industry, capable of addressing the challenges of sovereignty, autonomy, and security within the framework of reinforced South-South cooperation. TASL, as a recognized global leader in defense, is contributing its expertise, advanced technologies, and international network to this project, while promoting skills transfer and local innovation, the statement concluded.
