An exceptional career:
Born in El Jadida in 1951, Belaïd Bouimid established himself as a true icon of Moroccan and African sports journalism. A graduate of Sciences Po Paris, he began his career with the newspaper Al Bayane before diversifying into press illustration, writing, and commentary.
His influence expanded on a continental scale when he was elected president of the African Union of Sports Press (UAPS) from 2005 to 2009, while remaining an active member of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS). Visionary and committed, he played a major role in giving Moroccan sports journalism international standing.
A pen and a voice to remember:
Until his final days, despite illness, Belaïd Bouimid never ceased to pursue his passion. He hosted a daily editorial on the program Mars Attack on Radio Mars and regularly published columns in the daily L’Opinion. With his sharp pen, lucid outlook, and tone both critical and caring, he left a lasting mark on generations of readers and journalists.
A living legacy:
