The agreement, signed at ICAO headquarters in the presence of Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdelssamad Kayouh, and his Nigerien counterpart, Amadou Abdourahmane, aims to consolidate bilateral cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise in areas such as aviation safety and training programs for personnel, ensuring the highest standards of safety and security in international air transport.
The MoU establishes a practical framework for technical collaboration between Morocco’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Niger’s National Civil Aviation Agency, defining the modalities and mechanisms for its implementation.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, the signing, attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to Canada, Souria Othmani, reflects the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen Africa’s presence in international civil aviation. It also aligns with Morocco’s vision to position itself as a regional hub connecting Africa to the world while promoting continental integration in air transport.
In a statement to MAP, Minister Kayouh said, “This MoU will allow both countries to expand cooperation in the air transport sector.” He added that the agreement also aims to strengthen the presence of Royal Air Maroc and Niger’s national airline. The minister, leading Morocco’s delegation to the 42nd ICAO Assembly, further emphasized the Kingdom’s readiness to host Nigerien pilots for training programs.
The ICAO Assembly, convened at least once every three years at the request of the Organization’s Council, brings together 193 member states and numerous international organizations to define global civil aviation policy for the coming three years.
On the sidelines of the event, which continues until October 3, the Moroccan delegation held a series of bilateral meetings to reinforce the Kingdom’s presence within the international civil aviation system and highlight its candidacy for a seat on the ICAO Council.
