European Union Officially Includes the Moroccan Sahara in Its New Trade Agreement with the Kingdom

The European Commission confirmed that products from the Southern Provinces will be classified as Moroccan products in commercial exchanges. This strategic decision was finalized following discreet negotiations with Rabat from September 10 to 15.

According to the Spanish media outlet El Independiente, Members of the European Parliament will vote next Wednesday on this text, which seeks to overcome the legal obstacles imposed by the CJEU ruling.

A leaked internal document from the Commission specifies that the agreement provides for customs preferences to be granted to products from the Moroccan Sahara. This is a clear and unequivocal recognition that strengthens Morocco’s position, while consolidating its full sovereignty over its southern provinces.

Beyond the commercial aspect, this step confirms Europe’s confidence in Morocco as a major strategic partner and reflects the irreversible integration of the Sahara into the national economy.
