U20 World Cup: Morocco Set for Brazil Clash to Confirm Their Strong Start

Buoyed by their convincing 2-0 victory over La Roja, Mohamed Ouahbi’s men will head into the match full of confidence and determination, aiming to bring the five-time world champions of the category to their knees and prove that their first triumph was no accident.

The Morocco–Brazil clash, scheduled for Thursday at midnight (GMT+1), promises to be a serious test for the Atlas Lion Cubs, who are determined to achieve a positive result that would pave their way to the Round of 16.

“The national team wants to go as far as possible in this competition. We have the confidence and the potential to compete, but we need to keep our feet on the ground and remain humble,” Ouahbi told the press after the Spain game.

“We are not afraid of big teams like Spain or Brazil, and we want to live these matches. Our goal is to win every game,” he added.

On the other side, Brazil, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Mexico in their opener, will be under pressure to deliver a win in this enticing encounter.

Morocco’s defense, led by Ismael Baouf and Smail Bakhty, will face a stern challenge against Brazil’s powerful attack, which registered 75 attempts against Mexico. The Lion Cubs, however, are confident they have the tools to withstand the Seleção’s offensive firepower.

Brazil’s U20 team has an illustrious record, with five World Cup titles in 1983, 1985, 1993, 2003, and 2011, and four runner-up finishes in 1991, 1995, 2009, and 2015.

The two sides have met only once before in this tournament, in the classification match of the 2005 edition in the Netherlands, where Brazil won 2-1.

The other Group C match will see Spain face Mexico on Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. (GMT+1).
