This re-election, secured in the very first round with 119 votes, reflects the strong credibility of Morocco’s efforts in the field of human rights, both nationally and internationally, in line with the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, according to the Permanent Mission of Morocco to the United Nations in Geneva.
A State Party to the Convention since 1993, Morocco has consistently worked toward its full implementation as well as its universalization, particularly within the framework of the Convention against Torture Initiative (CTI), in which Morocco plays a leading role.
Rouwane, who successfully completed a first term on the Committee, is a distinguished expert with twenty-eight years of experience in the field of human rights, notably through his work with the National Human Rights Council and the Interministerial Delegation for Human Rights.
This re-election crowns an important diplomatic campaign in support of Morocco’s candidacy.
The Committee Against Torture, made up of ten experts, is the body responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention, notably by issuing recommendations to States Parties.
