Spanish Daily Marca Praises Moroccan International Othmane Maamma

In a feature titled “Othmane Maamma: Cristiano’s Lookalike from Morocco,” Marca highlighted the similarities between the Watford FC player and the Portuguese football legend, noting that the two share “the number 7 jersey, athletic strength, speed, and an explosive playing style.”

The newspaper revisited Maamma’s standout performances during the tournament, including his stunning bicycle-kick goal against Brazil (2-1) and his brilliant backheel assist in the quarterfinal victory over the United States (3-1).

Named Man of the Match against the Americans, Maamma impressed with “his pace, power, and sharp game sense,” Marca added.

A product of Montpellier HSC’s academy, Maamma had already made his mark in Ligue 1, becoming at just 18 years old the third-youngest goalscorer in the club’s history. His former coach, Michel Der Zakarian, once described him as “a promising, attentive player with great potential.”

According to Marca, Othmane Maamma represents the ambitious new generation of Moroccan football, destined to carry the Kingdom’s colors proudly on the international stage.
