Morocco: A Major Player in World Football with Growing Ambitions, Says RTBF

The U20 World Cup title represents “a remarkable achievement for a nation that is asserting itself year after year as a major actor in world football, whose appetite naturally continues to grow,” the Belgian media outlet notes on its website.

“The fourth-place finish of Morocco at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was not a one-off. Moroccan football continues to shine at all levels and seems well-prepared for the future,” adds RTBF, pointing out that after the historic bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Morocco confirmed its standing by winning the U20 World Cup.

The Atlas Lion Cubs achieved “a flawless run in Chile, proving that their triumph was not the result of mere chance,” RTBF observes.

The outlet also notes that Moroccan football “is clearly on the rise and appears ready for upcoming challenges,” starting with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which the Atlas Lions will host from December 21.

“Having already secured a ticket for the 2026 World Cup, Morocco can look to the future with optimism and eagerly plan for the 2030 World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal,” RTBF concludes.
