The members of the delegation, representing both chambers of the Italian Parliament, attended presentations and conducted field visits to learn more about the region’s potential and its infrastructure across several socio-economic areas.
In a statement to the press, Ettore Rosato, parliamentary group coordinator and Secretary General of the Azione Party, said that the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region is experiencing sustained development marked by a genuine desire to create the conditions for economic growth and improved quality of life.
“The region is witnessing remarkable progress driven by major investments in several fields,” said Mr. Rosato, emphasizing the shared commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship between Morocco and Italy.
On this occasion, the delegation met with the President of the Laâyoune Commune, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, where they were briefed on the regional development program encompassing projects launched under the new development model for the Southern Provinces.
The Italian parliamentarians also held talks with the President of the Regional Council, Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid, during which they learned about the regional development program and the main projects currently underway.
During this meeting, discussions also highlighted the relevance of Morocco’s autonomy plan as a definitive solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
The delegation further explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as industry, tourism, logistics, renewable energy, healthcare, and services, with plans to organize sectoral meetings between professionals from both countries.
They also stressed the importance of implementing academic exchange programs and encouraging companies to launch concrete investment projects in the region.
Earlier in the day, the delegation met with the Governor of Boujdour, Ibrahim Ben Ibrahim, at the Wilaya of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, where discussions focused on the region’s progress across multiple sectors.
The Italian parliamentary delegation included Stefania Ascari, deputy from the 5 Stelle Party (5S); Graziano Pizzimenti, deputy from the Lega Party; Marco Dreosto, senator representing the same party; Giovanni Arruzzolo, deputy from Forza Italia and Vice President of Parliament; and Giorgio Lovecchio, deputy from Forza Italia.
