Mauritania’s Party Leader Says Autonomy Plan Paves Way for Maghreb Development

In a statement to MAP, Taghi said that “the autonomy plan constitutes the most realistic and achievable solution” and “will allow the Maghreb region to overcome the deadlock in which it has long been mired.”

“Our region needs peace to address economic, social, and environmental challenges,” she added, noting that this “conflict remains the main obstacle to the long-awaited regional integration.”

Taghi also affirmed that a solution based on the autonomy initiative will “put an end to the tragedy” of the populations in the Tindouf camps, where living conditions fall far short of the requirements for a dignified life.

“It is time for the countries of the Maghreb to combine their efforts and build a common space capable of realizing the hopes and aspirations of their peoples, still inspired by the dream of unity,” she concluded.
