UN Security Council Resolution on the Moroccan Sahara: Sir Liam Fox Praises the Foresight of His Majesty the King’s “Patient Diplomacy”

“This is a giant step toward peace, stability, and security in the region. It confirms both the relevance of the Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco and the wisdom of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s patient diplomacy,” wrote Sir Fox in a post on his X account, welcoming the Security Council’s adoption of the resolution supporting Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for the Sahara.

For his part, Matthew Davies, Policy Director at the Abraham Accord UK, described the adoption of Resolution 2797 as “excellent news.”

“It is excellent news that the UN Security Council has endorsed Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for the Sahara,” he said, emphasizing that this support, combined with the commendable Atlantic Initiative launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, “will promote stability in the Sahel and strengthen Morocco’s regional influence, our closest ally in North Africa.”
