Hilale recalled that the official recognition by the United States of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara was “a founding act” that helped consolidate a strong diplomatic momentum—one recently crowned by the adoption of a UN Security Council resolution supporting the Autonomy Plan.
“This resolution is not just a simple text, it is a new political framework,” said Hilale. He emphasized that His Majesty King Mohammed VI has made this milestone a National Unity Day, celebrated throughout the Kingdom—particularly in Laâyoune, Dakhla, and Smara—where massive crowds took to the streets to express their unwavering attachment to the Throne and to Morocco’s territorial integrity.
“Thank you, President Trump”
Asked by journalist Rita Cosby, Omar Hilale did not hesitate to pay tribute to the former U.S. president:
“Donald Trump was the first leader of a major power to clearly and officially recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. He paved the way. Yes, thank you, President Trump.”
According to Hilale, that recognition triggered a broad international movement: France, the United Kingdom, Germany, as well as several regional powers and international organizations, now support the Autonomy Initiative as the only credible, realistic, and lasting solution.
He also recalled that His Majesty King Mohammed VI personally mentioned Donald Trump in his most recent address, describing him as “a faithful friend of Morocco.”
Hilale concluded with a hopeful message:
“We look forward to welcoming President Trump to our Southern Provinces. The wisdom of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the dynamic initiated by Donald Trump could lead to a definitive solution as early as next year.”
A Royal Speech That Marks History
On October 31, 2025, on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Green March, His Majesty King Mohammed VI announced “a decisive turning point in the history of modern Morocco.”
The Sovereign affirmed that the adoption of the Security Council resolution and the support of the majority of UN member states for the Autonomy Initiative confirm Morocco’s full and complete sovereignty over its Sahara:
“United Morocco extends from Tangier to Lagouira. No one shall ever question its historical borders.”
Openness and Confidence in the Future
While welcoming these major diplomatic achievements, the King reaffirmed his openness to dialogue, inviting Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to build new relations based on mutual respect and a shared future.
Finally, His Majesty addressed a fraternal message to Moroccans in Tindouf, inviting them to return to the motherland and take part in building a united, stable, and prosperous Morocco.
