Speaking before Brazilian officials, Arab diplomats and members of the press, Morocco’s ambassador to Brasília, Nabil Adghoghi, underlined the message addressed by His Majesty the King to the Chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Mr. Coly Seck, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
In this message, he recalled, the Sovereign states that with the continued international recognition of the State of Palestine, the growing global support for the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent State within the framework of the Two-State Solution strengthens the momentum generated by the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and affirms that this solution has now become an immediate requirement dictated by political realism.
The ambassador also recalled the principles established by the Sovereign to guide any international effort in support of a just and lasting peace. Among them is the need to preserve the unity of Gaza and the West Bank under the supervision of the Palestinian National Authority so that both territories form an integral part of the desired Palestinian State with East Al-Quds as its capital. He added that these principles include supporting the Palestinian National Authority under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas and reinforcing its political, administrative and financial capacities, supporting the Palestinian economy, encouraging Palestinian reconciliation under the auspices of the Palestine Liberation Organization to ensure national unity and engaging in a serious negotiation process within a specific timeframe to establish a sovereign and viable Palestinian State based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Al-Quds as its capital.
He further stressed that His Majesty the King, in His capacity as President of the Al-Quds Committee, continues relentless efforts to preserve the authentic civilizational identity of the Holy City, protect its legal status and safeguard the sanctity of its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
For his part, the Secretary for Africa and the Middle East at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, stated that the actions undertaken by His Majesty King Mohammed VI aim to allow the Palestinian people to fully enjoy their inalienable rights.
He added, in a statement to MAP, that the initiatives and actions led by the Sovereign also reflect the position of the majority of UN member states that support an independent Palestinian State within the framework of the Two-State Solution.
For his part, the Ambassador of Palestine to Brazil, Ibrahim Al-Zeben, expressed deep gratitude for the constant support of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Moroccan people for the Palestinian cause, as well as the role of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee, in defending the rights of the Palestinians and preserving the Arab, civilizational and religious identity of the Holy City.
