Initiated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health (FM6SS), this Summit is part of the momentum driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in support of African health sovereignty based on innovation, cooperation, and capacity building.
It aims to offer strategic reflection on the future of the continent’s health systems and to highlight Africa’s achievements in epidemiology, infrastructure, training, governance, and research, with a focus on the imperative to strengthen networks of expertise to make health a major lever for human, economic, and social development.
The Summit will also provide an opportunity to reinforce African health networks in their dimensions of epidemiology and public health, infrastructure and access to care, training and enhancement of human-resource skills, health financing and policy, and action research, all aimed at achieving optimal equity for populations.
The opening session, attended notably by the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, Azeddine El Midaoui, and the Deputy Director of FM6SS, Youns Bjijou, featured the screening of an institutional film about the Foundation, highlighting its achievements, its role in medical training and research, as well as its African vocation through the partnerships it develops and its increasing support for the continent’s health systems.
The program of this first African Summit includes several panels focused notably on “epidemiology and health priorities in Africa,” the “integrated health information system and global health,” “organizational models and governance of health systems,” and “financing and universal health coverage in Africa.”
Parallel sessions will be held at the Mohammed VI Campuses for Science and Health, first in Casablanca and then in Rabat, and will address innovation, partnership, and the role of health stakeholders.
The opening session of the Summit was further distinguished by the presence of Ambassadors and Consuls General from African countries, Secretaries-General of various ministerial departments, as well as regional elected officials, university presidents, deans, professors, experts, and researchers.
