A heavy setback for anti-Moroccan lobbying
The attempt led by two MEPs from the EPP, including the Spanish representative Carmen Crespo, failed by only one vote to reach a qualified majority. A resounding failure that highlights the weakness of a hostile current unable to prevail against the legal coherence of European regulations.
Luis Planas stated clearly that Moroccan products will continue to circulate freely, without restriction, and in full compliance with European standards, as has been the case for years. Attempts to imply any irregularity are merely political agitation, without legal or economic basis.
Europe acknowledges reality: the Sahara is Moroccan, and so is trade
The exchange of letters signed on October 3, 2025 in Brussels had already confirmed this fact. The southern provinces benefit from the same tariff preferences as the rest of the Kingdom. The vote in the European Parliament simply reaffirms the solidity of the legal framework governing Morocco EU relations.
At the same time, it puts an end to the remaining hopes of those who sought to exploit the labeling issue to challenge Morocco’s territorial integrity.

Luis Planas also pointed to the attitude of the Partido Popular (PP), engaged in what he described as a purely political campaign, disconnected from the realities of international trade.
Facing this pressure, progressive European forces stood firm, reaffirming the strategic nature of the partnership with Morocco and refusing to sacrifice shared economic interests for partisan calculations.
Morocco emerges stronger
In the end, this vote confirms the stability of the Morocco EU partnership, the confidence of European institutions in Moroccan products and the failure of a political attempt that was never destined to succeed.
Morocco, faithful to its vision of openness and development inspired by the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, continues to establish itself as a respected economic actor, a reliable supplier and an indispensable partner for Europe. In Brussels as in Madrid, one reality now stands firm. Morocco cannot be bypassed. Even less its Sahara.
