Speaking during the presentation of the Interior Ministry’s sectoral budget before the Committee on the Interior, Regions, Local Authorities and Infrastructure, Mr. Laftit stressed that this consultative approach marked a series of meetings held with various political parties to examine key questions related to the general framework of the legislative elections, in line with the High Royal Directives contained in the Throne Day Speech.
He noted that this work covers a draft organic law relating to the House of Representatives, a draft organic law relating to political parties, and a draft law concerning the general electoral lists, the referendum process and the use of public audiovisual media during electoral and referendum campaigns, adding that these draft laws have now entered the legislative process for review and approval.
According to Mr. Laftit, the success of the upcoming elections depends on guaranteeing transparency throughout the electoral process and ensuring the moralization of political life, in accordance with the High Royal Directives that establish the ethical dimension as a cornerstone for strengthening the role of elected institutions and for ensuring fair competition among all political parties.
He added that, in line with legislative and regulatory provisions, the Ministry has taken the necessary steps to disburse the annual subsidies allocated for the 2025 financial year, which represent the State’s contribution to covering the operating expenses of political parties that meet the legal requirements.
The Ministry, he continued, has also called on the concerned political parties to regularize their financial situation with the General Treasury of the Kingdom, in accordance with the recommendations of the Court of Accounts.
He recalled that the committee responsible for implementing the Support Fund for the Promotion of Women’s Representation met at the end of February 2025 to present the amendments introduced the previous year to the legal framework governing the Fund, with the aim of improving its functioning and strengthening its effectiveness.
For their part, the councillors praised the political consultation process that brought together the Ministry of the Interior and various political parties to examine issues related to the general framework of the upcoming legislative elections.
They also highlighted the importance of the three aforementioned draft laws in supporting the process of political and institutional reform, given their concrete impact on strengthening political participation and consolidating trust in elected institutions.
