Speaking on Wednesday at a meeting dedicated to combating fake news, the minister highlighted the central role of the media in verifying published content and in developing the public’s critical thinking skills, at a time when information flows are multiplying across a wide range of digital platforms.
Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid also recalled his department’s commitment to promoting media literacy through the launch and encouragement of structured initiatives. These take the form of training cycles, study days and educational materials developed in particular by the Higher Institute of Information and Communication (ISIC), with the aim of strengthening professional and civic skills in the face of contemporary information challenges.
Emphasizing the Moroccan vision in this area, the minister underlined that, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom is betting on a conscious and resilient society, built on a healthy, credible and responsible media environment. “The most effective response to false information remains accurate, rigorous and accessible information,” he stated, calling for the strengthening of public and private media and for ensuring the dissemination of information based on transparency and responsiveness.
In this regard, the ministry is also working to support investigative journalism specialized in fact-checking, considered an essential bulwark against the loss of credibility of information and a strategic lever for restoring public trust.
The minister further highlighted the institutional and legislative advances achieved by Morocco, which have helped strengthen freedom of opinion and expression, while consolidating the role of professional journalism in guiding and raising awareness within society throughout the democratic process.
He finally noted that the evolution of the legal framework governing media professions is accompanied by ongoing efforts to strengthen the economic model of press companies, taking into account the profound transformations affecting the sector. Through public support granted to the press industry, the State seeks to enhance the resilience of media institutions, enable them to continue fulfilling their public interest mission and support the structuring of the media landscape, in the conviction that the press remains one of the fundamental pillars of democracy and a key factor in public trust.
