Morocco vs Zambia: Atlas Lions regain their footing with a statement win

A crucial response under pressure

Morocco delivered a powerful response against Zambia, winning 3–0 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, in front of 62,532 spectators, to regain momentum after the controversial Regragui decisions that followed the Morocco vs Mali match.

A fast start that set the tone

The Atlas Lions struck early, setting the tone from the opening minutes. Ayoub El Kaabi opened the scoring in the 9th minute, finishing clinically to give Morocco the lead and calm any lingering doubts.

Diaz doubles the lead

Morocco doubled its advantage in the 27th minute when Brahim Diaz found the net, capping off a dominant first half in which Morocco controlled possession, tempo and territory.

A master of bicycle kicks for the Man of the Match

The defining moment came in the 50th minute. El Kaabi produced another spectacular bicycle kick, once again showcasing his signature move. The goal came from a free kick, and although it was initially almost flagged for offside and briefly removed, the referee reviewed the action and validated the goal, confirming Morocco’s 3–0 lead.

With that second strike, El Kaabi, the master of bicycle kicks, was crowned Man of the Match, delivering a performance that embodied Morocco’s authority and attacking confidence.

Hakimi returns as captain

Another major moment came as Achraf Hakimi made his first appearance on the CAN pitch, entering as a substitute for Noussair Mazraoui. Hakimi stepped onto the field wearing the captain’s armband, marking his return with both leadership and symbolic weight.

Morocco through to the knockout stage

This victory means Morocco is now officially qualified for the next round of the Africa Cup of Nations, securing passage beyond the group stage with a three-goal margin that reflects their dominance on the night.

The result not only restores confidence after recent controversy but also sends a clear message: Morocco remains firmly in control of its CAN 2025 campaign.
