Morocco–Chile: An Economic Partnership Based on Integration and Sustainability

Speaking at a high-level forum bringing together business leaders in the Chilean capital, Santiago, Omar Hejira, Secretary of State in charge of Foreign Trade, highlighted the promising prospects for cooperation in several strategic sectors, notably agribusiness, renewable energy, clean technologies, logistics, the automotive industry, as well as chemicals and para-chemicals.

He stressed the importance of boosting reciprocal investment and strengthening trade exchanges in order to move beyond levels that are still considered modest between the two countries.

According to Mr. Hejira, this momentum is in line with the enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which aims to diversify the Kingdom’s economic partnerships and strengthen its presence in Latin America, particularly in the Republic of Chile, through the establishment of balanced cooperation and the development of concrete projects with lasting economic and social impact.

He also noted that this dynamic is unfolding against the backdrop of profound transformations affecting the global economy and international trade chains.

Mr. Hejira underlined the central role of the major Royal projects in accelerating industrial development, strengthening investment mechanisms and expanding modern infrastructure, including advanced logistics facilities such as the Atlantic port of Dakhla, in enhancing Morocco’s positioning as a strategic gateway to the African continent and a regional platform for integration into global value chains.

For her part, Kenza El Ghali, Ambassador of His Majesty the King to the Republic of Chile, expressed the hope that this meeting would mark a new stage in opening broader prospects for trade cooperation, thereby strengthening the privileged diplomatic relations between Morocco and Chile and translating them into concrete economic partnerships.

Both sides announced the organization of a Moroccan-Chilean business forum in Morocco in June 2026, aimed at consolidating the foundations of the strategic partnership and turning shared ambitions into concrete economic projects, while promoting the exchange of expertise and experience, particularly in the field of international marketing, in the service of the interests of both countries and the strengthening of their presence in international markets.

Several officials and representatives from the private sector took part in the meeting, notably from the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) and the Moroccan Association of Exporters (ASMEX).

On the Chilean side, participants included the President for Foreign Trade Affairs, the Director General of the Association of Poultry Slaughterhouses and Refrigerated Meat Industries of Chile, the International Coordinator of the Society of Chilean Industries (SOFOFA), the Director General of the Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG), the President of the Chilean Fruit Federation, the Head of International Relations at the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (ODEPA), an advisor from the Europe, Africa and Middle East Directorate, a representative of the Undersecretariat for International Economic Relations (SUBREI), the Coordinator of the International Relations Office at the Ministry of Energy, as well as the Head of the Investment Promotion Department at the Chilean Investment Agency (InvestChile).
