This tribute took place on the occasion of a meeting held by Ms. Bouayach with Mexican officials, human rights defenders, academics, community representatives and local leaders in this locality of the State of Morelos, in central Mexico.
Speaking on this occasion, the Mayor of Jantetelco, Ángel Augusto Domínguez Sánchez, stated that this tribute is a recognition of Ms. Bouayach’s unwavering and long-standing commitment to human rights, not only in Morocco, but also at the regional, continental and international levels.
For her part, Ms. Bouayach expressed her gratitude for this “moving and highly meaningful” tribute, considering that this initiative goes beyond the protocol framework to embody “a mark of trust, friendship and shared values” between Morocco and Mexico, and between women and men human rights defenders from both countries and beyond.
For the President of the CNDH, the struggle for human rights, both in Morocco and in Mexico, stems from local communities and their histories, affirming that “dignity, justice and equality are not abstract principles, but foundations built through collective effort.”
On this occasion, Ms. Bouayach reiterated her continued commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights at the national, regional and international levels, considering that this distinction represents additional motivation to continue defending the rights of all.
During her visit to Mexico, the President of the CNDH held meetings with several Mexican officials, notably presidents of regional courts and the President of the Federal Court.
She also spoke at the headquarters of Mexico’s Supreme Court, where she highlighted Morocco’s experience in the protection and promotion of human rights, as well as the foundations of the Moroccan approach to reforms in this field.
