Field operations, carried out continuously since last Tuesday, cover all low-lying neighborhoods and areas close to the banks of Oued Loukkos, which has recorded record water inflows in recent weeks. This situation is mainly due to the Oued El Makhazine dam reaching 100 percent capacity and strong sea swells that have prevented the normal flow of rainwater toward the sea.
The Maghreb Arabe Presse Agency observed on site the sustained intervention of a rescue and salvage unit from the military engineering corps of the Royal Armed Forces, operating in neighborhoods located on both sides of Avenue de la Libération (the Larache road), in order to evacuate citizens who remained trapped inside their homes.
With great precision and exemplary military discipline, members of the foot unit, including divers, first carried out a reconnaissance of the area before dispatching a rescue boat capable of navigating shallow waters to evacuate affected persons and their belongings and transport them to safe locations.
The unit members guided the boat through slightly deeper areas, then entered the shallow waters themselves, demonstrating a high sense of humanitarian commitment, to surround the boat and calmly push it toward the nearest point of dry land.
In the same area, a Civil Protection unit composed of divers and rescue workers and equipped with a rescue boat joined the efforts deployed on the ground to ensure the safety of people and the protection of their property.
Upon reaching the flooded zones, Civil Protection personnel used whistles to signal the presence of the rescue boat before making direct contact with residents to coordinate their evacuation and that of their personal belongings.
Civil Protection teams then accompanied citizens forced to leave their homes, helping them carry their belongings, board the boat, and put on life jackets before departing toward the nearest safe areas.
In addition, several volunteers provided notable support to the rescue teams. Owners of trucks and tractors spontaneously mobilized to assist citizens stranded in areas with lower levels of flooding, illustrating a remarkable spirit of solidarity and coordination on the ground.
In statements collected by the Maghreb Arabe Presse Agency, several residents said that the rescue, evacuation, and protection operations helped reduce the extent of the damage caused by the waters that submerged many neighborhoods of the city. They also praised the anticipation and seriousness with which public authorities dealt with these exceptional weather conditions, unprecedented in Ksar El Kébir for more than thirty years.
