In Tangier, the French Institute Moves into a Historic Site Looking Toward the Future

Steeped in history and deeply rooted in Tangier’s collective memory, these buildings are reclaiming their cultural vocation while clearly embracing the future. The project successfully combined respect for architectural heritage with contemporary fittings designed to meet today’s public needs.

The new French Institute is conceived above all as an open, vibrant and inclusive cultural space, dedicated to youth, artistic creation, language learning and intercultural dialogue. It aims to become a genuine hub for meetings, exchange and innovation, serving both Moroccan and French talent.

During the inauguration ceremony, Christophe Lecourtier highlighted the importance of this space in strengthening the exceptional relationship between France and Morocco, built on deep human, cultural and historical ties. Through this project, both countries reaffirm their shared commitment to promoting culture, education and dialogue between generations.

A strong symbol of cooperation and mutual trust, the new French Institute of Tangier thus stands as a bridge between the memories of the past and the aspirations of the future, at the heart of a city that has always been a crossroads of cultures.
