Several neighborhoods, including Azzabi Rifaï and Al Marina, are already experiencing dangerously high water levels. This deterioration is mainly due to significant releases from the Oued El Makhazine Dam, fed by massive inflows from upstream areas.
The city is increasingly surrounded by floodwaters. The rising waters are compounded by the saturation of urban drainage networks, which are unable to handle the flow. In the lowest areas, the elevated Loukkos River prevents normal wastewater discharge, worsening water stagnation and flooding in several sectors.
The Oued El Makhazine Dam is operating under exceptional pressure, requiring sustained water releases to manage the excess inflows. The discharged volumes have reached very high levels, reflecting the significant hydrological strain on the downstream river system.
Regarding accessibility, Ksar El Kébir is now on the verge of isolation. Only one route remains passable toward Tatoft, a higher area where crisis management units, coordination teams, and rescue operations are concentrated.
Evacuations are well underway: the majority of residents in at-risk neighborhoods have been relocated, while a few hundred have chosen to remain in their homes despite repeated warnings from authorities to exercise caution.
Living conditions are also deteriorating, with water and electricity outages reported in several areas. Local officials are warning of the dangers for those still on site, emphasizing that any further rise in water levels could directly threaten their safety.
