A Key Strategic Partner
EU Ambassador Dimiter Tzantchev emphasized that the Kingdom remains a major ally of the EU in its southern neighbourhood and one of the main beneficiaries of its regional funding. This relationship is built on converging economic, political and social interests, further consolidated by the recent work of the Association Council and new initiatives such as the Global Gateway and the Pact for the Mediterranean.
In 2025, European support reached approximately 3.5 billion dirhams, backing strategic sectors including education, justice, infrastructure, ecological transition, gender equality, youth and territorial development. The EIB, the EU’s financial arm, signed €740 million in financing alone — an unprecedented level in more than a decade — targeting economic resilience, sustainable energy, water security and infrastructure reconstruction.
Bilateral trade figures reflect the intensity of the partnership: multiplied fivefold since the Association Agreement entered into force in 2000, exchanges reached a record of around 649 billion dirhams in 2024. The EU remains Morocco’s leading trading partner, absorbing more than two-thirds of its exports and supplying over half of its imports.
A Shared Ambition for the Future
In an uncertain international context, Brussels and Rabat are demonstrating a clear determination to further expand their cooperation in 2026 to jointly address global challenges: energy transition, regional stability, inclusive growth and sustainable development. The holding of the 15th Association Council and the 30th anniversary of the bilateral agreement confirm the depth of a relationship that has become structurally significant for both shores of the Mediterranean.
