During its first phase, held on February 20, 21 and 22, the hackathon took place simultaneously in the three regions of the southern provinces: Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.
The initiative brought together young talents, project leaders and technology enthusiasts, with the aim of showcasing Moroccan skills and developing concrete responses to the specific challenges of each region through the co-creation of innovative solutions adapted to local realities.
At the level of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, the first prize (Regional Excellence Award) was granted to the project “TalibWay”, a digital school orientation platform based on artificial intelligence. The platform allows students to input data related to their academic journey, results and objectives in order to receive personalized recommendations regarding the most suitable study programs and institutions for their academic and professional plans.
The second prize (Innovation Award) went to the project “Bahriya”, a platform that uses artificial intelligence to analyze fishing-related data and recommend optimal biological rest periods. The objective is to balance sustainable fishing activity for local fishermen while improving decision-making for authorities seeking to preserve the region’s marine resources.
The third prize (Impact Award) was awarded to the project “Solar”, an intelligent solution designed to optimize the production of solar installations in Dakhla. The system detects panel soiling, particularly caused by sand, as well as hidden technical malfunctions that could affect energy output.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, stated that the hackathon aims to promote territorial equity in its digital dimension, enabling each region to fully leverage its strengths and potential.
She added that the initiative seeks to stimulate the opportunities offered by digital transformation while strengthening youth engagement in building an inclusive digital ecosystem capable of generating value.
The minister also highlighted Dakhla’s natural and strategic assets, as well as the dynamism of a qualified youth in the fields of technology and innovation, describing the region as fertile ground for the emergence of initiatives of this scale.
She noted that this approach is part of the vision of King Mohammed VI to promote balanced and inclusive digital development, positioning youth as a central driver of innovation and value creation nationwide.
In this context, the ministry plans to support promising projects through dedicated mechanisms for mentoring, pilot-phase development and partnerships with public and private actors, with the aim of enabling experimentation and broader deployment.
High-potential solutions may also be showcased at major international technology events such as GITEX, in order to strengthen the visibility of Moroccan expertise and reinforce the Kingdom’s position as an emerging actor in the fields of digital technology and artificial intelligence.
The “Ramadan IA” hackathon forms part of the “AI Made in Morocco” initiative, the national roadmap on artificial intelligence aimed at positioning Morocco as a producer of sovereign technological solutions combining innovation, competitiveness and impact in support of development.
