Residents of Dubai reported hearing a powerful explosion and seeing missiles crossing the sky following strikes attributed to Iran against the United Arab Emirates on Saturday. Similar sounds of explosions were also reported in other cities across the region, including Riyadh, Doha and Abu Dhabi.
In Dubai, several witnesses described a blast strong enough to make the windows of homes vibrate. One resident, speaking anonymously to AFP, described the noise as sudden and intense. Another inhabitant gave a similar account.
A woman living in the city said she saw three projectiles streak across the night sky before disappearing on the horizon. She described them as flaming spheres leaving behind trails of smoke.
According to initial reports, one civilian was killed in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, which notably hosts a United States military base. These strikes reportedly occurred in a context of heightened regional tensions following an attack carried out by the United States and Israel.
For their part, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards stated on Saturday that they had targeted several American military installations in the region. They claimed to have struck the United States Navy’s Fifth Fleet stationed in Bahrain, as well as other bases located in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
