The position was reaffirmed by Hamish Falconer, Minister at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in charge of the Middle East and North Africa, during a statement before the House of Commons, the lower chamber of the UK Parliament.
The United Kingdom wishes to see a lasting resolution to the Sahara dispute, Falconer said.
“We believe that our support for Morocco’s autonomy plan as the most credible, viable, and pragmatic basis for a durable solution is aligned with that objective,” he stated.
“For this reason,” the official added, “we have also welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797.”
