A high-level Ecuadorian delegation paid a visit to Dakhla on Friday to explore the investment opportunities offered by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and examine prospects for economic and trade cooperation with Morocco as a whole.
The visit comes as part of the Economic Promotion Week of the Republic of Ecuador in Morocco, organized to showcase the economic potential of the Latin American country across various sectors.
On this occasion, the delegation, led by Deputy Minister for Negotiations at Ecuador’s Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade and Investments, Sanchez Icaza Cesar Janvier, held talks with the Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and Governor of Oued Eddahab Province, Ali Khalil, focusing on development dynamics and progress achieved in several sectors across the region.
The meeting, which was also attended by Acting Director General of the Regional Investment Center Fayçal Sahman, saw Mr. Ali Khalil highlight the region’s key productive sectors, notably the blue economy, agriculture, tourism, renewable energy and modern infrastructure, particularly the Dakhla Atlantic Port.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Cesar Janvier said discussions covered several issues related to investment, trade integration and tourism. He added that Morocco and Ecuador share many common values as two open countries committed to peace, respect for human rights and possessing significant opportunities for joint development.
He noted that several areas of common interest had been identified and could serve as drivers of mutual growth in the short term, stressing that “the Dakhla Atlantic Port project is of particular importance not only for Ecuador, but for all South American countries, as it will constitute a strategic maritime corridor helping strengthen trade exchanges between both sides.”
For his part, Ecuador’s Ambassador to Morocco, Diego Morejón Pazmiño, underlined the promising prospects for economic cooperation and investment between the two countries, calling for them to be fully utilized.
The Ecuadorian delegation also met with President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, El Khattat Yanja, who stated after the meeting that both sides reviewed the region’s development across various sectors, as well as ways to strengthen economic and political ties between the Kingdom and Ecuador through close cooperation.
The Ecuadorian delegation includes several officials, notably Ecuador’s Ambassador in Rabat, General Coordinator of Trade Offices, Fairs and Missions Johana Sossa Copa, and Ecuador’s Trade Counselor in Madrid, Borys Mejía.
