Nasser Bourita receives EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita welcomed European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas in Rabat on Thursday, April 16, during her first official visit to Morocco since taking office.

The two-day visit comes within the framework of strengthening the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union. The agenda includes a one-on-one meeting between the two officials, followed by a joint press conference aimed at highlighting areas of convergence and future cooperation prospects.

Beyond diplomatic talks, Kallas is also expected to meet several women leaders from different sectors, reflecting the attention given to governance and inclusion issues. Her visit also includes a trip to Fez, where she will visit the EuroMed University of Fez, a symbol of Euro-Mediterranean academic and cultural cooperation.

The meeting follows discussions held in Brussels last January during the 30th anniversary of the Morocco-European Union Association Agreement. During that meeting, the EU foreign policy chief outlined a notable evolution in the bloc’s position on the Sahara issue, referring to the autonomy option as a credible and realistic solution within the framework of the United Nations process.

The visit to Morocco reflects a shared determination to deepen political, economic and strategic ties between Rabat and Brussels in a constantly changing regional and international environment. It also confirms Morocco’s central role as a key European Union partner in its southern neighborhood.
