A new chapter is being written in the relations between Morocco and the United States. On Thursday, April 30, the city of Casablanca hosted the official inauguration of the new U.S. Consulate General, in the presence of Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, Ambassador Duke Buchan III, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, Advisor to His Majesty King Mohammed VI Fouad Ali El Himma, General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces, and Minister of Economic Inclusion Younes Sekkouri.
This event marks a highly symbolic milestone in a bilateral relationship spanning nearly 250 years—one of the oldest diplomatic alliances of the United States. On this occasion, American officials highlighted the historic significance of the inauguration: Morocco is already home to the Tangier American Legation, the oldest American diplomatic property in the world, and now hosts the newest U.S. consular complex globally in Casablanca.
A historic partnership in constant evolution:
The opening of this new consulate reflects the vitality and modernity of a partnership that has continued to grow stronger over the decades. It embodies the mutual trust between Rabat and Washington, as well as their shared determination to deepen cooperation across strategic sectors—from the economy and security to culture and innovation.
Casablanca, a strategic hub of cooperation:
The choice of Casablanca for this new diplomatic infrastructure is no coincidence. As the Kingdom’s economic heart, the city stands as a key regional hub, facilitating trade and human exchanges between the two nations. This modern consulate will support investment, assist businesses, and strengthen ties between Moroccan and American societies.
An alliance looking toward the future:
Beyond its symbolic dimension, this inauguration represents a shared vision of a forward-looking partnership. By bringing together key figures such as Christopher Landau and Nasser Bourita, the event confirms the strategic alignment between the two countries and their commitment to building a future of prosperity and stability.
More than just a diplomatic building, the new U.S. Consulate in Casablanca stands as a powerful symbol of enduring friendship, ambitious cooperation, and an exceptional alliance between Morocco and the United States.
