The 2nd Ministerial Conference on peacekeeping in a Francophone environment opened this Wednesday in Rabat. Co-chaired by Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, and Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot, this meeting is organized in partnership with the United Nations and the International Organization of La Francophonie.
It brings together 62 delegations, including 26 represented at ministerial level, senior representatives of the United Nations, the OIF, and regional organizations, as well as civilian and military experts working in the field of peacekeeping.
The Conference is taking place at a pivotal moment marked by the ongoing evolution of the environment in which UN peacekeeping operations are conducted, as well as current reforms undertaken within the United Nations regarding the peacekeeping and peacebuilding architecture. Its main objective is therefore to provide an additional opportunity for Francophone countries to develop a shared understanding of the current challenges of peacekeeping operations in which they are engaged.
The holding of this international conference in Morocco on this central theme is a recognition of the Kingdom’s pioneering and sustained contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations around the world. It reflects the trust and credibility enjoyed by the Kingdom within international bodies as a committed, mobilizing, and unifying actor in major multilateral debates.
This second edition follows the first Ministerial Conference on peacekeeping in a Francophone environment, held in Paris in 2016.
