Ecuador Determined to Strengthen Relations with Morocco – Ecuadorian FM
Nations Unies (New York) - Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabriela Sommerfeld, expressed on Thursday in New York her country’s determination to strengthen its cooperation with Morocco in strategic areas, including trade and security


In a press statement following a meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly, Ms. Sommerfeld stressed that this meeting was an opportunity to discuss strengthening trade relations and security cooperation between the two countries.
She reported “promising” prospects for relations between Rabat and Quito, thanks to the friendship between the two countries.
Regarding trade cooperation, Ms. Sommerfeld expressed the hope of seeing “more Moroccan products in Ecuadorian markets and more Made-in-Ecuador products in Moroccan markets.”
The Ecuadorian Foreign Minister also recalled that she and Mr. Bourita jointly inaugurated Ecuador’s embassy in Rabat in July.
During her visit to Morocco, Ms. Sommerfeld affirmed her country’s support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, considering it “the basis” for resolving the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
She added that the opening of Ecuador’s embassy in Rabat marks the beginning of a new era of dynamic cooperation between Morocco and this Latin American country.
