Alstom strengthens its industrial presence in Morocco with a new strategic unit in Fez
In the presence of the French Ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier, the Wali of the Fes-Meknes region, Khalid Aït Taleb, the Director General of ONCF, Mohamed Rabie Khlie, and the Consul General of France in Fez, Carine Foeller Viallon, Alstom inaugurated, on Wednesday 28 January 2026, a new industrial unit at its Fez site. This opening marks a major step forward in the group’s industrial development in Morocco.

Officially announced in December 2025, this investment of 100 million dirhams aims to strengthen and diversify Alstom’s production capabilities in the Kingdom. The project notably includes the installation of the world’s first fully dedicated, multi-platform production line for the manufacturing of train driver desks, positioning Morocco as a key player in the international railway value chain.
According to Martin Vaujour, President of Alstom for Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, this new facility illustrates the industrial momentum the group is developing across the AMECA region. The equipment produced in Fez is intended for railway projects in several countries, confirming the strategic positioning of the Moroccan site within the group’s global operations.
Beyond this new unit, Alstom is also rolling out a broader industrial expansion program. This includes doubling the production capacity of Mitrac transformers, as well as the creation of a development and engineering center aimed at strengthening local expertise and innovation capabilities. This approach forms part of a regional strategy designed to sustainably consolidate the group’s industrial and technological capacities.
These new investments are expected to create more than 200 direct jobs, contributing to the economic development of the Fes-Meknes region and to the strengthening of Morocco’s railway ecosystem.
For Mehdi Sahel, Managing Director of Alstom Morocco, the increase in Mitrac capacities and the establishment of an engineering hub represent a decisive step for the national railway industry, complementing the new production line and reinforcing Morocco’s position in the global value chain of the sector.
With more than 1,400 employees in Morocco, Alstom has already been involved in several major projects, notably the delivery of 270 Citadis tramways for Rabat and Casablanca, 12 Avelia Euroduplex high-speed trains for the Tangier-Casablanca line, as well as 77 Prima locomotives. Since 2020, nearly 200 million dirhams have been invested in the Fez site, laying the foundations for the industrial expansion currently underway.
