CAF: Patrice Motsepe Rules on AFCON 2027 Dates, Pledges Firm Response After Morocco 2025 Final

The President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, moved to put an end to speculation surrounding a possible postponement of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. He stated unequivocally that the tournament will go ahead according to the original schedule, stressing that no official discussions have ever taken place to alter the dates.

This clarification was made during a press briefing following a meeting of CAF’s Executive Committee, where Motsepe insisted that the recent rumors were unfounded. He explained that the governing body is closely monitoring the progress of preparations in the host countries, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, and expressed confidence in their ability to meet organizational deadlines.

At the same time, the head of African football reopened the file relating to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Referring to the incidents that occurred after the match, he expressed deep regret and assured that CAF intends to adopt strict sanctions and reinforced measures to prevent any recurrence of such disturbances.

Through this dual message, Motsepe sought to reassure stakeholders both about the smooth organization of the next edition and about the confederation’s determination to draw lessons from past events. AFCON 2027 is therefore maintained on its scheduled dates, from 19 June to 18 July 2027, in accordance with the program already approved.
