Marrakech: Interpol Praises Morocco’s Security Leadership and the Pivotal Role of Abdellatif Hammouchi

Marrakech has once again positioned itself as a major global security hub. During the 93rd General Assembly of Interpol, the organization’s Secretary General, Valdecy Urquiza, delivered a strong tribute to Morocco for its central role in international security cooperation.

From the outset, Urquiza expressed Interpol’s “immense pride” in being hosted in the red city, extending his gratitude to Moroccan authorities and, in particular, to Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of the National Police (DGSN) and the Intelligence Directorate (DGST), for his continued and decisive support.

“Morocco is not only hosting this General Assembly. It is one of the most active and committed member states within Interpol’s programs,” he stated.

A Global Security Gathering of Unprecedented Scale

The event is taking place in a tense global context marked by increasingly sophisticated criminal threats. This year’s assembly has brought together representatives from 181 member countries, over 1,000 delegates, 25 ministers and vice-ministers, and 82 police chiefs.

This record participation reflects Morocco’s growing reputation and credibility in the global security landscape.

Urquiza recalled that the General Assembly represents Interpol’s highest decision-making body, offering a strategic framework for assessing risks, understanding emerging threats and defining coordinated responses.

Cutting-Edge Security Tools Revealed: Nexus and AI Policing

The Marrakech edition marks a technological milestone for the organization.

Urquiza announced the rollout of Nexus, a next-generation platform enabling real-time information exchange between member states, significantly strengthening the fight against transnational crime.

He also unveiled Interpol’s first law-enforcement tool powered by artificial intelligence, designed to process vast datasets, accelerate investigations and produce advanced criminal analytics.

A breakthrough that is expected to reshape investigative cooperation worldwide.

Morocco, a Cornerstone in Global Security Cooperation

Concluding his address, Urquiza reiterated the organization’s appreciation for Morocco’s unwavering commitment:

“We deeply thank Morocco for its exceptional support. The entire global law enforcement community gathered here in Marrakech extends its gratitude.”

With a forward-looking security strategy, modernized institutions and a national vision guided by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco continues to strengthen its role as a key actor in regional and international stability.
